WILL ALLEN
Strong Safety
ST. LOUIS – It was believed this game would match a very good Steelers offense against a very good Rams defensive front, but with just a little bit more than five minutes remaining, the script got thrown out the window when Ben Roethlisberger injured his left knee and was taken into the locker room on a cart. At that point, the Steelers knew they were going to need someone else to be the hero.
That player turned out to be safety Will Allen.
With the Steelers protecting what was a 9-6 lead at the time, and the Rams with the football, St. Louis quarterback Nick Foles attempted to go deep down the middle of the field. Allen came over and made the interception – the Steelers' first of the 2015 season – and his 20-yard return set up a clinching field goal from Josh Scobee in what turned into a 12-6 victory that raised the team's record to 2-1.
Allen finished the day with seven tackles, including on Tavon Austin in the open field on a third-and-6 play that forced St. Louis into one of its punts in the first half.
Will Allen is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
