RUSSELL WILSON
Quarterback
It wasn't enough to win, and because he is the quarterback there is a chunk of the responsibility for that to fall on his shoulders. But when Russell Wilson hooked up with Calvin Austin III for a 23-yard touchdown on a third-and-6 with 6:15 remaining in the game to give the Steelers a 19-18 lead in a game they eventually would lose, 24-19, he had completed 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) for 241 yards, with 1 touchdown, no interceptions, and a rating of 127.5. The Steelers had converted 6-of-13 on third downs (46.2 percent) and were 1-for-2 in the red zone. He also gained 10 yards on 3 carries.
Wilson did that while taking a pounding from a Browns pass rush that sacked him 4 times and registered 9 total hits on the quarterback. Wilson is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Also considered were CB Donte Jackson, who had 3 tackles, 1 interception, and the recovery of a fumble created by Nick Herbig's strip-sack; DeShon Elliott, who had 6 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery; Herbig, who had 5 tackles and the aforementioned strip-sack; Patrick Queen, who led the team with 7 tackles, broke up a pass in the end zone, and had 1 of the 6 hits on Jameis Winston; and Jaylen Warren, who rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries (4.1 average) with a 3-yard touchdown and also caught 3 passes for 19 more yards.
