Player of the Week

Jones is Digest Player of Week

LANDRY JONES
Quarterback

The Steelers managed very little on offense in their preseason ending 23-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers tonight at Heinz Field, but what they did accomplish on offense came with Landry Jones at quarterback.

Ben Roethlisberger wasn't even in uniform for the Steelers' fifth preseason game, and Mike Vick started and played four offensive series. At that point – late in the second quarter – Vick was replaced by Jones, who finished 9-of-11 for 147 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions for a rating of 118.8. Jones hooked up with Sammie Coates on a 42-yard gain and then with Jarrod West on a 46-yard gain. Jones was the quarterback on each of the Steelers field goal drives, and he had quarterbacked the team to a first down at the Carolina 10-yard line before being forced to leave the game with a minor injury.

Landry Jones is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Josh Scobee, who converted two 27-yard field goals and had all three of his kickoffs go for touchbacks; Jordan Berry, who averaged 52 yards on five punts with one inside the 20-yard line; Roosevelt Nix, who blocked a punt; and Vince Williams, who started at inside linebacker and led the team with 12 tackles.
