Player of the Week

Jones is Digest Player of the Week

JARVIS JONES
Outside Linebacker

It was a night when the Steelers' offense wasn't able either to sustain any drives or make any big plays, a night when the defense didn't have a sack or an interception, a night when special teams finished with 2 yards on punt returns and 35 yards on kickoff returns, a night when the Steelers were shut out by Carolina, 10-0, their first goose egg in a preseason game since 1992's 26-0 defeat in New Orleans.

It was also a night when Jarvis Jones' fumble recovery was the highlight of the night for the Steelers, and because of that Jones is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

In addition to his fumble recovery, which came when Carolina quarterback Derek Anderson couldn't corral a shotgun snap, Jones also made three tackles, including one for loss.

Also considered were Shamarko Thomas, who had six tackles, including one for loss; Darrius Heyward-Bey, who led the team with six catches for 44 yards; Josh Harris, who led the team with 41 yards on six carries, including a 31-yard burst that was the Steelers' longest gain of the night; and punter Brad Wing, who punted nine times for a 40.1 gross average, a 39.6 net average, and three inside the 20-yard line.
