JAVON HARGRAVE
Nose Tackle
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's said that a 3-4 defense cannot stop the run without a space-eating nose tackle. The Jaguars rushed for 179 yards and averaged 4.2 per carry, but there can be little argument that Javon Hargrave had an outstanding game in the Steelers' 20-16 victory today at TIAA Bank Field.
Hargrave had four tackles, plus two of the Steelers' six sacks, and during the Steelers' frantic comeback in the fourth quarter he batted down a pass on a third-and-11 to get the defense off the ball and the ball back to the offense. Hargrave is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Also considered were Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 27-of-47 for 314 yards, with two touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 65.4 rating; and he also scored the game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run to save what was a broken play and get the Steelers the victory; T.J. Watt, who had six tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles; JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught eight passes for 104 yards, including a 35-yarder on the game-winning drive; Antonio Brown, who caught five passes for 117 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown and a 25-yarder on the game-winning drive; Vince Williams, who led the team with 10 tackles and added a sack; and Jordan Berry, who averaged 51.0 yards on his six punts and finished with a 41.7-yard net average.
