It's been quite the month for Steelers kicker Chris Boswell.
First, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Week 1 of the season.
Then, he and his wife Havana announced they are adding to their family, with a baby due in March.
And now, Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, capping a month where he was well beyond clutch for the Steelers.
"He's just highly accurate to boot, and that's probably the guiding factor in terms of our long ball aggression more recently," said Coach Mike Tomlin.
Boswell went 11 for 12 on field goal attempts for the month, including a long of 57 yards, and six for six on extra point attempts through four games, scoring a total of 39 points. His 11 field goals made, five field goals of 50+ yards, 91.7% field goal percentage and 83.3% field goal percentage of 50+ yards all lead the AFC and rank second in the NFL. Boswell's only miss of the season came on a 62-yard field goal attempt in Week 3 vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.
Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Steelers Week 1 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Boswell accounted for all 18 points the Steelers scored, going six-for-six on field goals. Boswell hit three field goals of more than 50 yards, connecting from 57, 51 and 56 yards.
"Can't say enough about Boz (Chris Boswell) not only in terms of him kicking the ball, but that punt was timely," said Tomlin after that game. "We all know what he's capable of. I don't think anybody in that locker room is surprised by what he was able to do.
"As matter of fact, he loves it. I've been around this guy a long time. He wants the long ball. He's built for it. I think it's really displayed in my confidence in him. I don't have any hesitation to send him out there. As a matter of fact, I look forward to sending him out there because I know he relishes it. And so, we're thankful for that."
Boswell became the first kicker in Steelers history to hit three field goals of 50 yards or more in one game. He also tied a franchise record of six field goals made. In typical Boswell fashion, he downplayed what he did.
"It definitely feels good, but I mean we are right back on to the next week and whatever I did this week has no relevance to next week," said Boswell after the game. "I have the same mindset I've always had. Next kick, good, bad, indifferent. I have to move on to the next one.
"Just because I made one, doesn't mean I'm making the next. So, I've just got to stay into every single kick."
Boswell pulled double duty against the Falcons as well. Boswell stepped up and hit a 43-yard punt after punter Cameron Johnston suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter. On the play, the Steelers were called for a penalty, forcing a re-kick which Boswell did without any preparation.
"For my standards, it's good," said Boswell. "For a punter, it's probably not."
Since joining the Steelers in 2015, Boswell is 242-of-277 on field goal attempts (87.4%), including 110-of-138 (79.7%) on attempts of 40 yards or longer. He ranks second in field goal percentage (87.4%) among all NFL kickers with at least 250 field goal attempts since the start of the 2015 season.
Boswell has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week three times in his career. He won the honor in Week 6 of the 2015 season, Week 13 of the 2017 season and Week 1 of the 2024 season. He also won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month (December/January) in 2015.
