Boswell wins another AFC honor

Chris Boswell keeps racking up the honors, winning the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 11.

"What can you say about Chris Boswell in 2024 that hadn't been written or said," said Coach Mike Tomlin during his press conference on Monday. "He's been everything that we need him to be. He is performing at an extremely high level and we're extremely comfortable in calling upon him in just about any circumstances. It's just been special.

"And to do what he's done, obviously with a change at holder in the middle of the thing, is doubly impressive."

Boswell accounted for all the scoring in the Steelers 18-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens, hitting on six field goals, including three from 50 plus yards. Boswell connected from 32, 52, 32, 57, 27 and 50 yards to secure the win for the Steelers.

"I'm just here to do my job, and we needed six today," said Boswell postgame. "We didn't need any last week. As long as we get the (win), who cares about the rest?"

This was the second time this season Boswell kicked six field goals, as well as three from 50 plus yards, previously doing so in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, when he also earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

"I love Boz, and I'm tired of him getting player of the week," joked Tomlin following the win. "He'll probably get player of the week again this week. He is deserving of it, but it reminds us of our warts. It reminds us of the work that we need to do. But no doubt I'm thankful that he's on our team."

Boswell became the first Steelers kicker to hit three field goals of 50 plus yards when he did so against the Falcons, and now is the only player to have done it twice as well.

"When you have so many great players, obviously, Boz, he's always been one of the best in the game, and he showed that again today, just how clutch he is in so many crucial moments," said quarterback Russell Wilson. "When you really think about it, championship games, championship moments, they come down to crucial kicks like that a lot, and when you've got a guy that you can trust and know that he's going to have no fear, we just believe in him.

"He works at it. There's no surprise. It's not shocking because he works at it every day, and he loves it, and he's a great teammate, he's a great leader. He's composed. He's confident. He's everything you want him to be.

"He's got quarterback in him. He's got grit. He's got guts. I think that's a huge thing to have a guy like that kicking the ball for us."

Boswell has connected on 29 of 30 fields goals this season, with a long of 57 yards hit twice, and hit all 20 extra points. Since joining the Steelers in 2015, Boswell is 260-295 on field goal attempts (88.1%).

This is the fourth time Boswell has won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in his career. He won the honor in Week 6 of the 2015 season, Week 13 of the 2017 season and Week 1 of the 2024 season. He also won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in December/January in 2015, September of 2024 and October of 2024.
