The Steelers wrapped up their preparation for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with quarterback Russell Wilson once again listed as limited on the injury report.
Wilson, who was limited in practice on Thursday as well with calf tightness, is questionable for the game.
Wilson originally injured the calf in training camp, missing time and not playing in the team's first two preseason games. He returned for the preseason finale, playing one series against the Lions.
"I just felt a little tight (on Thursday)," said Wilson. "I wanted to be smart about it. Obviously, we play the game on Sunday, I'm hoping I get to be in it. Just trying to try and get ready to go.
"I'm trying to get my body ready to go and rock and roll. So, we're doing everything we can.
"I just tried to focus on the throws (in practice). Really didn't try to do too much. I tried to be smart, knowing that we have it all today and tomorrow. And then obviously, Sunday morning."
If Wilson can't go, it will be Justin Fields who will line up under center. The Steelers acquired Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2025 this offseason.
Fields was selected by the Bears in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the 11th overall pick. In three seasons he has played in 40 games, starting 38 of them.
Fields said he approaches every week as if he is a starter, so if he is called upon Sunday, he will be ready.
"I have the same process every week," said Fields. "I learned my rookie year how fast things can change. I remember my third game rookie season, Andy Dalton, he was just running out of bounds, it looked like a normal play, and he tweaked his knee and right then and there I was in. I always prepare like I'm a starter and you never know what can happen."
In addition, guard Isaac Seumalo (pectoral) and defensive tackle Logan Lee (calf) didn't practice for the third straight day and were both are out for Sunday.
Rookie receiver Roman Wilson, who missed the entire preseason with a knee injury, was limited in practice all week and is out.
Tight end Darnell Washington (knee) didn't practice on Thursday but was back on the field on Friday.
Prior to Wilson's injury, the injuries on the offensive line were the hot button topic in the Steelers locker room this week, with Seumalo ruled out because of a pectoral injury. Spencer Anderson will start at his left guard spot, and there is plenty of confidence in him.
"I feel like Spencer has taken a great jump from year one to year two," said tackle Broderick Jones. "I'm excited to see what he puts out there, what he's able to do for us.
"I love him. He's a good dude to be around. I'm just glad he's getting this opportunity to showcase what he can do."
With the injuries on the line, and a rookie starting at center in Zach Frazier, the line will be tested. Jones feels like they are up for the test.
"That's what training camp is for," said Jones. "I feel like training camp helped us a lot because we got a chance to bond with one another, push each other, just see what limits everybody has.
"I feel like we have a strong offensive line. Everybody, strong minded. Everybody's willing to learn. Everybody's willing to put their best foot forward. As long as you're coachable, you can play this game. I feel like we'll be all right.
"Isaac being hurt, that means more people have to step up, more younger guys. They're really looking at us and leaning on us too. Just being able to step up and take charge and go out there and do what we've been doing for so long."
The changes on the line will also put pressure on communication, especially playing indoors at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Jones feels they will be prepared.
"It's still the same. Communication is only poor when you have that bad preparation," said Jones. "I feel like throughout practice, we see a lot of different looks, a lot of different fronts, a lot of different defenses.
"We're able to communicate out there during practice with all the crowd noises that they have blasting on the speakers, so I feel like we'll be okay."
