The Steelers began their preparation for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns, the fourth straight AFC North matchup for the black and gold.
From an injury standpoint, receiver Calvin Austin III is in the concussion protocol following the win over the Bengals. He was limited on Wednesday.
"Calvin Austin is in the concussion protocol," said Coach Mike Tomlin. "So, we'll follow the medical experts there and let them provide us appropriate information."
On the defensive side of the ball, things are definitely trending in the right direction.
Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, but all signs are pointing to him playing on Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium. Highsmith was limited on Wednesday.
"I fully expect Alex Highsmith to be available to us this week," said Coach Mike Tomlin.
The return of Highsmith would give the Steelers their full complement on defense, something that hasn't been the norm with injuries as of late.
And just the thought of that is something that has Tomlin feeling good.
"Pretty exciting, isn't it," said Tomlin. "Let's see where the roads lead. We got a week of prep.
"You can't run out of rush men. I'm so excited about the potential of getting Alex Highsmith back and the development of (Nick) Herbig, the acclimation of Preston (Smith). You can't run out of rush men, particularly in December.
"It's exciting. Make no mistake, there's enough work for all parties involved and we're excited about sorting that out as we prepare."
The Steelers could also see the return of two other defensive players, cornerback Cory Trice Jr. and defensive lineman Montravius Adams Sr. Both players are currently on the Reserve/Injured (Designated for Return) List, but their practice window has been opened.
"I'm always feeling like I'm ready," said Trice. "I'm always ready. I'm just working day-by-day until my name is called for real. Whenever my name is called, I'll be ready."
Last week Adams was all smiles about the prospect of being back.
"It felt great to be back," said Adams, who was limited on Wednesday. "It's so great to be back and be back with the guys. Nothing but good spirits.
"I think this (injury) was a little bit harder because this past offseason I had a little injury that kept me out for a while, and then to come back for the season and do something else like that and be off for a while.
