Los Pittsburgh Steelers salieron victoriosos 18-10 contra los Atlanta Falcons en el primer partido de la temporada regular de la NFL. El enfrentamiento estuvo muy parejo pero sin duda Chris Boswell y la defensiva se echaron el equipo al hombro, la ofensiva tuvo un partido algo complicado pero hay cosas destacadas para analizar.
Todo comenzó un par de horas antes del partido cuando se anunció de manera sorpresiva que Justin Fields sería el quarterback titular para el partido contra los Falcons, ya que Russell Wilson recayó en su lesión en la pantorrilla, misma que lo limitó durante la pretemporada.
En general fue partido muy peleado por la ofensiva, empezando porque no estuvo Russell Wilson, de igual manera no hubo mucha sincronía al principio del partido entre nuestro centro novato, Zach Fraizer y Justin Fields, de hecho hubo un par de balones sueltos en la primera serie ofensiva al momento de centrar el balón, ambas ocasiones el balón fue recuperado por nuestro quarterback.
Es interesante analizar el juego terrestre de los Steelers que a simple vista tal vez no parece mucho por la falta de touchdowns durante todo el partido pero en realidad se llevaron gran parte de la carga ofensiva del equipo con 41 carreras para 137 yardas, siendo Najee Harris el líder con 70 yardas en 20 acarreos. El plan de juego de nuestro nuevo coordinador ofensivo, Arthur Smith, funcionó.
"Tenemos muchas cosas que trabajar, pero siempre es bueno trabajar todo eso con una victoria en la bolsa. Empezar la temporada de visita no es fácil y salir por la puerta con la victoria no es fácil y estoy muy agradecido con el esfuerzo de los muchachos", comentó Coach Tomlin ante los medios de comunicación.
La defensiva sigue siendo una locura. La unidad sigue dominando de manera increíble los partidos. Atlanta solamente produjo 226 yardas, de las cuales 175 fueron en la primera mitad. La manera en que la defensiva cerró el juego fue simplemente fascinante. T.J. Watt registró su primer sack de la temporada, Montravius Adams lo acompañó con otra captura y DeShon Elliot y Donte Jackson interceptaron pases Kirk Cousins.
El héroe y MVP del partido fue Chris Boswell, quién conectó los 6 goles de campo que nos dieron los 18 puntos totales con los que salimos victoriosos de Atlanta. El más largo de sus aciertos fue de 57 yardas. Hoy salió en modo automático. Increíble actuación con la que se convirtió en el primer pateador en la historia del equipo en hacer tres goles de campo de 50+ yardas en un solo partido (57,51,56).
Shoutout a Scotty Miller quién entró de holder sustituto y lo hizo tras la lesión de Cam Johnston parece que tiene una lesión grave, según lo reportó Coach T, sin dar más detalles, de hecho Boswell tuvo una patada de despeje (43 yardas) muy buena que alejó a los Falcons con menos de 4 minutos en el reloj de juego.
"No puedo decir suficiente sobre Bos, no solamente por los goles de campo, sino por la patada de despeje tran precisa en un momento crítico del partido" comentó Tomlin.
Los Steelers se enfrentarán a los Broncos en Denver el próximo domingo y durante la semana les estaremos informando todo lo necesario para que lleguen lo mejor informados al partido.
