La temporada 2020 nos mostró la capacidad de los Steelers para adaptarse a lesiones en la posición de linebacker interno. La Temporada 2020
Versatilidad y capacidad de adaptarse a los cambios. Eso es lo que nos mostró el cuerpo de linebackers de los Steelers en 2020. Devin Bush sólo pudo jugar cinco partidos, pero lo hizo de forma sólida y todo parece indicar que su rol en la defensiva será aún más grande cuando regrese de la lesión. Vince Williams participó en 14 partidos como titular y fue segundo en el equipo en tackleadas (70), además de aportar 3 sacks.
La temporada pasada los Steelers también descubrieron a una posible nueva joya dentro de su defensiva, Robert Spillane, quién aprovechó su oportunidad en la semana 6 contra los Browns y fue de impacto inmediato (como en el primer juego contra los Ravens, en donde tuvo 11 tackleadas, una intercepción y una anotación). Desafortunadamente terminó la campaña en la reserva de lesionados.
Avery Williamson llegó a mitad de la campaña vía cambio y también hizo lo posible para aportar en este equipo durante la segunda mitad de la temporada. Lo importante es que el rendimiento de la defensiva se mantuvo estable a pesar de todos las bajas que hubo en esta posición, lo cual habla de lo bien entrenada que está la defensiva de los Steelers.
¿Cuál es el plan para 2021?
Me parece que no habrá muchos movimientos o cambios en este departamento. Williamson llegó por una necesidad que se generó con la lesión de Devin Bush y la ayudó a cubrir bien, pero Bush debería estar listo para la pretemporada. Los Steelers también deberían de estar satisfechos con lo que Robert Spillane mostró con más tiempo en el terreno de juego y ya sabemos que Vince Williams es el mentor y líder de este grupo.
En lo personal creo que esta unidad es bastante sólida y espero una gran batalla entre Williams y Spillane en Training Camp para ver quién ganará la titularidad a lado de Bush la siguiente campaña. Creo que con los seis jugadores que están en el roster es más que suficiente para el equipo
