The Steelers signed tight end Pat Freiermuth to a new five-year contract.
Freiermuth was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
In three seasons, he has played in 44 games, starting 26. Freiermuth has 155 receptions for 1,537 yards, a 9.8-yard average, and 11 touchdowns.
Freiermuth's 155 receptions are the most by a Steelers tight end over the first three seasons in the NFL, and his 1,537 yards are also the most by a Steelers tight end in that same span. He also became the 10th tight end in NFL history to reach 100 career receptions in 25 games or less. He reached the 1,000 receiving yard mark in his 26th game, tied for the fastest with Eric Green for the tight end to reach that landmark the fastest in franchise history.
In 2023 he played in 12 games, starting nine, while spending time on the Reserve/Injured List. He finished the season with 32 receptions for 308 yards and two touchdowns.
He recorded the first 100-yard game of his career, finishing with a career-high nine receptions and career-high 230 yards in Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals. His 120 yards were 10th-most in a single game by a tight end in the NFL in 2023 and the third-most in a single game in team history by a Steelers tight end.
Freiermuth had a strong season in 2022 when he played in 16 games, starting eight. He had career highs with 63 receptions for 732 yards, while adding two touchdowns.
His rookie season in 2021 he played in 16 games, starting nine, and had 60 receptions for 497 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns.
