Smith spent part of the 2024 season with the New England Patriots, after starting the year on the Green Bay Packers practice squad. He appeared in eight games in 2024, starting one. He made his debut with the Patriots in a win over the New York Jets when he started as a tackle-eligible tight end. He also spent time on the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles practice squads in 2023.
Smith was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played in 10 games his rookie season, starting two, at right guard.
Smith played college football at Virginia Tech where he appeared in 45 games, with 38 starts, 37 of them at left guard and one at left tackle. He was a 2019 All-ACC Honorable Mention selection.
