With three members of the organization being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, it comes as no surprise the Steelers have been selected to play in the Hall of Fame game, taking on the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Aug. 6 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Kickoff for the game is at 8 p.m. The Steelers will be the home team.
Bill Cowher, Troy Polamalu and Donnie Shell are all members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, with Cowher and Polamalu to be enshrined on Aug. 8 and Shell on Sept. 18 as a part of the Hall of Fame Centennial Celebration.
Earlier this year Steelers President Art Rooney II hinted at the fact that the team could get the game after Cowher and Shell were announced and went on to say how special a time it's going to be with three inductees once Polamalu was announced.
"It's outstanding. Not very often that you have three people going into the Hall of Fame in one year. In fact, it's kind of rare that there are two people from one team go in in one year," said Rooney. "It doesn't happen very often. It's a special year. It's going to be an exciting year and I'm looking forward to seeing everybody in Canton and celebrating with some great Steelers people from some important years.
"It's going to be a special summer, a special time in Canton. We will be celebrating a lot this whole year. It will be an exciting time for Steelers fans."
The Steelers haven't played in the Hall of Fame game since 2015, the year Jerome Bettis was enshrined and have a 3-3 record in the game. This year will mark the seventh time the team has played in the game, with the Cowboys also playing for the seventh time, and will give the Steelers five preseason games. The rest of the preseason schedule has yet to be announced.
Tickets for the game will go on sale on Friday, March 13 at 10 a.m. To order tickets, click on Hall of Fame tickets.
