Fans in Ireland show their support

Steelers fans turned out in huge numbers on Sunday to show their support for the team as they played the Indianapolis Colts, but the venue was nowhere close to where the game was played.

Over 800 fans were on hand in Dublin, Ireland for the Steelers Watch Party at the iconic Croke Park, cheering on the team with the same enthusiasm as if they were at right there at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Highlights from the party were shown during the game broadcast on CBS, as well as on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland.

This is the second straight year the team has hosted a Watch Party in Dublin, with the enthusiasm growing year over year.

Steelers legends, and Super Bowl champions, James Farrior and Willie Parker were on hand for the event, mingling with the crowd, signing autographs and posing for photos after an action packed few days in the area.

"The support we saw for the Steelers on our trip was amazing," said Parker. "I couldn't believe the amount of Steelers jerseys, hats and Terrible Towels that we saw, not just at the Watch Party, but throughout our trip."

Fans were greeted with yellow or green Terrible Towels as they arrived, and they waved them throughout the game. Steelers official merchandise was available for fans to purchase, a Madden Gaming Zone was on hand, and game day audio and video content that is shared at home games was also featured to give them a true game day feel.

A pregame show with video features and live, on-stage interviews with Farrior and Parker kicked off the day. The Watch Party had a feel of being at Acrisure Stadium, with Farrior and Parker leading the traditional Terrible Towel Twirl that takes place on game days.

Farrior and Parker were also treated to a tour of Croke Park and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Museum where they learned the history of Irish sport.

The Steelers held a sold out fan Watch Party at the iconic Croke Park venue in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday, September 29

"We had a blast," said Farrior. "It was great seeing so many Steelers fans in Ireland and also learning about Gaelic sports at Croke Park. This is a day that I will remember for a long time."

The Watch Party wrapped up a trip to Ireland for the organization that included a trip to Newry, Co Down, the ancestral home of the Rooney family, for an American Football Flag Youth Camp with Down GAA and American Football Ireland at Páirc Esler on Saturday.

The Youth Camp was a hit with 60 young attendees from GAA clubs across Down as they received instruction from Farrior and Parker.

"We had a great weekend at both our American Flag Football Youth Camp in Newry and at our Watch Party at Croke Park on Sunday," said Dan Rooney, the Steelers Director of Business Development & Strategy. "The events allowed us to spend time engaging with fans from across the island, as well as to teach the game of American football to young athletes here.

"We look forward to continuing to host successful events like these so we can continue to connect with our Irish fan base and share our love of American football."

The most recent trip marks the third time the Steelers have visited Ireland this year, previously hosting a Kicking Clinic at the Sport Ireland Campus in April, and American Flag Football Youth Camps in both Belfast and Cork in June.
