En un juego que parecía dominado en la segunda mitad, la falta de balance a la ofensiva y los errores en la defensa durante momentos clave fueron las principales causas de la primera derrota de la Temporada 2020 de los Steelers.
A pesar de que no pudieron amarrar el boleto a los Playoffs, Pittsburgh aún tiene el control de tener todos los juegos en casa en la AFC. Aquí te presento el análisis de este encuentro:

Por segunda semana consecutiva los Steelers decidieron jugársela en cuarta oportunidad desde la yarda uno. Y por segunda ocasión fallaron en convertir. Sin embargo en este partido esos 3 puntos pudieron ser la diferencia. En el segundo cuarto la ventaja de este equipo podría haber sido de 10-0 y en el último cuarto, en cuarta y uno desde la yarda 28 de Washington con el juego empatado, el equipo pudo ponerse al frente, aunque la ausencia de Chris Boswell pudo ser factor en esta segunda decisión.
No hubo ajustes para el ataque aéreo de Washington
Esta es la segunda ocasión en que la defensiva de los Steelers no pudo provocar una entrega de balón en la temporada. Y no sólo eso, durante la segunda mitad permitieron que el ataque aéreo de Washington tomara ritmo a pesar de que eran muy predecibles por perder a su corredor titular Antonio Gibson.
Cuatro de las seis series ofensivas de Washington en la segunda mitad terminaron en puntos. Tres jugadores de esta ofensiva terminaron con más de 70 yardas por pase y ninguno de ellos fue Terry McLaurin, su mejor receptor. Los pases cortos a J.D. McKissic y los intermedios al TE Logan Thomas (98 yardas, 1 TD), fueron la clave para que la ofensiva de Ron Rivera encontrara la forma de meterse al encuentro.
Sin balance en la ofensiva es muy complicado
Cuando en un partido lanzas 53 veces y sólo corres en 14 (para un pésimo promedio de 1.5 yardas por acarreo) no vas a ganar de forma constante. Esto es un problema desde la temporada pasada, sin importar quién sea el QB titular y los Steelers necesitan encontrar la manera de mejorar una ofensiva que es de las más predecibles de toda la NFL.
Sólo en uno de los últimos siete encuentros este equipo ha logrado superar las 100 yardas por tierra.
¿Qué se puede mejorar?
La enorme cantidad de pases que sueltan los receptores/TE
En las últimas semanas este ha sido un claro problema para los Steelers. En contra de Baltimore fueron 7 drops, esta tarde fueron seis lo cuales detuvieron avances interesantes de la ofensiva. Big Ben ha hecho un gran trabajo en encontrar a sus receptores no sólo en pases rápidos, sino en terceras oportunidades de largo yardaje, pero no siempre el resto del equipo hace las jugadas. Y no es sólo un receptor en específico, son todos.
El momento clave del partido
El pase de 29 yardas de Alex Smith a Cam Sims en el último cuarto
Sin duda esta fue la jugada que definió el partido para los Steelers. Tercera y 4 en la yarda 44 del rival, Smith encuentra en un pase profundo a Sims con el juego empatado a 17 con 3:10 por jugar. 4 jugadas después se patea el FG que pone por primera vez al rival al frente, lo cual sería definitivo.

Ben Roethlisberger - QB
A pesar de la intercepción al final (en un pase desviado en la línea), Big Ben logró mover a la ofensiva de forma constante y sufrió por varios pases que le soltaron. Superó las 300 yardas y sin duda es el motor ofensivo de este equipo.
Conclusiones
Si, la primera derrota siempre duele, pero el gran inicio de la temporada para este equipo nadie se lo va a quitar (así como el récord). Sin embargo hay mucho que trabajar y los Steelers no cuentan con mucho margen de error en una Conferencia Americana que está cerrada, no sólo para tener todos los juegos de Playoffs en casa, sino por la siembra en postemporada. Y el próximo domingo van en contra de unos Bills que son líderes de la AFC East.
Lo importante será ver cómo reacciona este equipo después de esta derrota y si se pueden corregir esas áreas de oportunidad, ya que el objetivo no es pasar a Playoffs o ganar la división, sino tener la oportunidad de conseguir el séptimo trofeo Vince Lombardi en la historia de esta franquicia.
