'A Steelers Story: Dawn of a Dynasty' set to premiere

In the words of Steelers President Art Rooney II, it was a 'magical' time.

The 1974 season when the Steelers won Super Bowl IX.

The Steelers are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl IX and that season, and Steelers Media Productions is bringing you the full story.

'A Steelers Story: Dawn of a Dynasty' will premiere on Tuesday, October 15 at 7 p.m. on steelers.com and the Steelers YouTube channel. 'A Steelers Story' looks to provide in-depth profiles on Steelers players past and present as well as other unique Steelers stories.

While the 1974 season was a magical time, there were definitely some hurdles to overcome.

The road started off rocky when training camp was impacted by a players' strike, keeping many veterans away from Saint Vincent College for a good portion of the summer, while rookies reported and got to work.

There was turmoil at quarterback with Joe Gilliam, who reported to training camp with the rookies during the strike, starting the first six games of the season over Terry Bradshaw. Bradshaw eventually took over, but as he shares in the video, it wasn't the easiest sailing for him.

But it's not always about how you start, but rather how you finish that matters.

And the Steelers finished on top, culminating with a trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl IX against the Minnesota Vikings.

Steelers legend Rocky Bleier narrates the story of the 1974 team, which includes exclusive interviews with Mel Blount, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Greene, Donnie Shell, John Stallworth, Lynn Swann and Art Rooney II.

"It's hard to believe it's been 50 years," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "Some of those memories are still pretty fresh, pretty strong.

"It was just a magical time. The determination those players and coaches had was unlike anything I had ever seen before and maybe since."
