Take a look at important dates in Steelers history during the month of August

August 3, 2002 - John Stallworth was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Stallworth, the Steelers fourth-round selection in the historic Steelers 1974 NFL Draft Class, caught 537 passes for 8,723 yards and 63 touchdowns.

August 4, 1990 - Franco Harris was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Harris was the Steelers first-round draft selection in 1972, the 13th pick overall, and finished his rookie year with 1,055 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.

August 4, 1990 - Jack Lambert was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Lambert, known as 'Dracula in Cleats,' had 28 career interceptions, including a pivotal one late in Super Bowl XIV that secured the win.

August 4, 2001 - Lynn Swann was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Swann was named All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl in 1975, 1977 and 1978, and was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1970s and the Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team.

August 4, 2012 - Dermontti Dawson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Dawson holds the record for second most consecutive games played in Steelers history at 170 games.

August 4, 2012 - Jack Butler was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Butler was selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1950 and finished his career with 52 interceptions.

August 5, 1967 - Bobby Layne was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In his first full season with the Steelers, Layne completed 142 passes for 1,986 yards and 20 touchdowns.

August 5, 1989 - Terry Bradshaw was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Bradshaw led the team to four Super Bowl championships and named MVP in Super Bowl XIII and XIV. He passed for 932 yards and nine touchdowns in the four Super Bowl victories and in 19 postseason games passed for 3,833 yards.

August 5, 1989 - Mel Blount was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Blount's "bump-and-run" cover ability caused the NFL to implement the five-yard bump rule in 1977, a rule where the only time a receiver can be bumped by a defender is within five yards of the line of scrimmage.

August 7, 1997 - Alex Highsmith was born

August 7, 1996 - Marcus Allen was born

August 8, 1987 - Joe Greene was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Greene is one of only two players to have his jersey retired by the Steelers. He was named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team, the 1970s All-Decade Team and the Steelers 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.

August 8, 1987 - John Henry Johnson was inducted the into Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1962, he became the first Steelers player to rush for more than 1,000 yards, with 251 carries for 1,141 yards and seven touchdowns.

August 8, 1997 - Chukwuma Okorafor was born

August 8, 2009 - Rod Woodson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Woodson was one of only five active players named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary Team in 1994 and was also a member of the Steelers' 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.

August 8, 2015 - Jerome Bettis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Bettis rushed for 10,571 yards with the Steelers, and amassed 13,662 career yards, which puts him eighth overall in NFL history.

August 9, 1997 - Ulysees Gilbert III was born

August 15, 1996 - Ray-Ray McCloud was born

August 20, 1992 - Kameron Canaday was born

August 22, 1996 - Carlos Davis was born

August 24, 1996 - Isaiah Buggs was born

August 25, 1993 - Chris Wormley was born

August 25, 2001 – The first game ever was played at Heinz Field, a 20-7 win over the Detroit Lions in the preseason.
