The highs and lows of the Steelers regular season Week 8 game at the Detroit Lions.

8:30 p.m. ET - Kickoff

8:37 p.m. ET - What went right:** The Steelers received the opening kickoff and moved smartly down the field. The first play was a fake bubble screen that turned into a down-the-field pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 41-yard gain to the Detroit 34-yard line. Le'Veon Bell carried on three of the next four plays and gained 18 yards to set up a third-and-2 from the 16-yard line. Ben Roethlisberger had Eli Rogers wide open in the end zone, but Rogers dropped the ball, and the Steelers had to settle for a 34-yard Chris Boswell field goal and a 3-0 lead with 12:12 left in the first quarter.

8:47 p.m. ET - What went wrong: The Lions answered the Steelers' field goal with one of their own that came at the end of an eight-play, 45-yard drive, with most of the yardage coming on a 43-yard pass to Marvin Jones on a second-and-14 that happened after Matthew Stafford was flushed out of the pocket. Matt Prater's 48-yard field goal tied the game with 7:50 left in the first quarter.

8:53 p.m. ET - What went wrong: The Steelers' second possession ended with a turnover, when Ben Roethlisberger's pass for Antonio Brown was intercepted by free safety Glover Quin at the Detroit 17-yard line. The line of scrimmage on the turnover was the Lions 44-yard line, and the Steelers got there via completions of 18 yards to Smith-Schuster and 10 yards to Jesse James sandwiched around a 3-yard run by Le'Veon Bell.

8:58 p.m. ET - What went right: The Steelers defense responded to Ben Roethlisberger's first quarter interception with a three-and-out that was punctuated by a sack of Matthew Stafford by Cam Heyward. Following the punt, the Steelers took over at their own 45-yard line with 3:52 remaining in the first quarter.

9:06 p.m. ET - End of 1st Quarter: Steelers 3, Lions 3

9:20 p.m. ET - What went wrong: The Lions took a 6-3 lead on a 37-yard field goal by Matt Prater with 9:11 left in the second quarter. The big play on the Lions' 39-yard scoring drive was a 33-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Marvin Jones that came on a busted coverage.

9:29 p.m. ET - What went right:** The Steelers took a 10-6 lead with a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 5-yard run by Le'Veon Bell with 4:10 left in the second quarter. The big play on the drive was a 44-yard completion to Antonio Brown who came back to make a play on a slightly underthrown ball on a third-and-9. Ben Roethlisberger also converted a previous third down with a 7-yard pass to Justin Hunter.

9:39 p.m. ET - What went wrong: Detroit answered the Steelers' touchdown with a 51-yard Matt Prater field goal that made it 10-9 with 2:14 remaining in the first half. The big play on the drive was a 25-yard completion to T.J. Jones on a play where the ball was delivered down the sideline in between cornerback Artie Burns and safety Mike Mitchell.

9:46 p.m. ET - What went wrong: The Steelers' second turnover of the game cost them a chance to build on their 10-9 lead in the final minute of the second quarter. Antonio Brown converted a third-and-12 with a 15-yard catch-and-run, and then Jesse James managed to hang onto a short pass and turn it into a 32-yard gain on the next play. Faced with a third-and-1 at the Lions 23-yard line, Le'Veon Bell ran into the middle of the line and appeared to have the first down before losing a fumble that Glover Quin recovered at the Lions 21-yard line.

9:56 p.m. ET - What went wrong:** The Lions took advantage of the Steelers' second turnover and moved into position for a fourth Matt Prater field goal, this one from 34 yards out, to take a 12-10 halftime lead. Throughout the first half, the Lions were successful completing passes in the area between Joe Haden and Mike Mitchell, and a 34-yard completion to T.J. Jones was the big play on that possession.

9:57 p.m. ET - Halftime: Lions 12, Steelers 10

10:25 p.m. ET - What went right: The Steelers defense opened the second half with a three-and-out that was clinched when Tyson Alualu batted down a Matthew Stafford pass on third down. After the punt, the Steelers seemed to score a touchdown on a 9-yard pass to Antonio Brown, but he was flagged for offensive pass interference. The Steelers settled for a 34-yard field goal from Chris Boswell that gave them a 13-12 lead with 9:21 remaining in the third period.

10:38 p.m. ET - What went right: It was fourth-and-goal at the Steelers 1-yard line, and the Lions decided against a fifth field goal attempt by Matt Prater. But Tyson Alualu sabotaged the strategy by sacking Matthew Stafford for a 1-yard loss, and the Steelers took over on downs and protected their 13-12 lead with less than five minutes left in the third quarter.

10:43 p.m. ET - What went right:** The offense picked up the defense by taking the ball and going 98 yards on three plays to extend the lead to 20-12 with 3:01 left in the third period. But it was less a scoring drive than it was a spectacular play by JuJu Smith-Schuster. He took a short pass from Ben Roethlisberger and out-ran the Lions secondary for a 97-yard touchdown on a third-and-9 play from the Pittsburgh 3-yard line.

10:49 p.m. ET - End of 3rd Quarter: Steelers 20, Lions 12

10:56 p.m. ET - What went wrong: It wasn't so good that the Lions moved the ball right down the field on the possession following Smith-Schuster's long touchdown play, but once again the Steelers defense stiffened and kept the Lions out of the end zone. This time the Lions settled for a 19-yard field goal from Matt Prater that made it a 20-15 game with 12:54 remaining.
