Greg Warren understands. He knows what it's like to see someone you love suffer from the often debilitating effects a brain tumor can have on an individual.
He went down that road, a tough and painful one, in 2013 when his wife Ashley underwent surgery to have her brain tumor removed. There were sleepless nights, lots of prayers, plenty of pain, but even more faith.
But in the end, there was a victory, winning the toughest battle they will ever have to fight.
Now, over two years removed from the surgery and Ashley doing amazingly well, they want to give back to those still fighting the battle and that is they are launching, Warren’s Warriors: Field Goals for Kids.
"We have a passion to help anyway," said Warren. "We love being able to give back and help those in need. It makes it more special if you have gone through something that you know someone else is going through, and you can give to a charity that helps them.
"For us to be able to give to a charity that helps kids with cancer, that helps the parents and families. It's close to us. We know because of Ashley's brain tumor the struggles these families go through."
Warren is donating $150 per Steelers field goal this season to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. And he is looking for Steelers Nation to join his team. Fans can make their pledges, receiving gifts based on pledge level, and all those who donate will be eligible to win four tickets to a Steelers home game this season.
"We were trying to think of something different, something outside of the box," said Warren. "We thought this might give people more a chance to feel involved and be a part of our team to help raise money for children.
"When kids are going through any kinds of struggle, it's tough. It really touches your heart and makes you want to do as much as you can to help. They just need somebody to help them through it."
