Things certainly didn't go as the Steelers hoped in Super Bowl XLV, and a big reason for the defeat had to do with the team committing three turnovers and forcing none. Because of the early Steelers turnovers, the team was in catch-up mode for most of the game, which meant the ball was in the air a lot for the Steelers.
When the ball is in the air, one of the most dependable players the Steelers have is Hines Ward.
Ward finished with seven catches for 78 yards, including a touchdown that gave the Steelers hope at halftime by pulling them to 21-10 at that point. Ward's touchdown catch was his 10th postseason touchdown, and he became the sixth player in NFL history to accomplish that.
Ward is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
Also considered were Rashard Mendenhall, who finished with 63 yards rushing on 14 carries, plus a touchdown, but his lost fumble in the second half was one of the Steelers' turnovers' Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 25-of-40 for 263 yards, with two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions, one of which was returned by the Packers for a touchdown; and LaMarr Woodley, who had three tackles and one sack to extend his streak of consecutive postseason games with a sack to seven.
