Mike Tomlin is known for his public persona as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But there is a role that is much more meaningful to him.
"Coaching football is my job, being a husband and father is who I am," said Tomlin. "I prioritize it that way and I like to encourage others to do the same."
That is why Tomlin once again hosted the All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience at the UPMC Sports Performance Complex, bringing his four-year old daughter Harlyn with him.
"It's an awesome day for me because I get to come out and do it with my daughter," said Tomlin, who has three children. "I do a lot of activities with my boys, who are eight and nine. It's great to have an opportunity to spend a day with her. It's about forging great relationships with fathers and children."
Tomlin spoke to the over 600 gathered for the event, which draws fathers and their children for a morning filled with fun activities and relationship building and bonding, delivering a strong message about the importance of fatherhood.
"More than anything we all have trials and tribulations," Tomlin said of the message he delivered. "We all have ups and downs, particularly professionally. It's important to put in everything we have in terms of being fathers for our kids, providing great examples of how to do that for our young people, love them and listen to them. It's about the quality moments.
"I want to be the very best dad I can be. I want to use the platform I have to encourage others to do the same."
