Timmons remembers a day like no other

April 28, 2007
Ryan Shazier selected in the first round of the NFL Draft

Linebacker Lawrence Timmons was like any college player, he had a dream of one day playing in the National Football League.

When Timmons was selected by the Steelers in the 1st round (15th pick overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft, that dream became reality.

Timmons recently shared what draft day was like for him, from the excitement and emotion, to becoming a part of Steelers Nation.

"The day was crazy. I remember I was in Florida and had a draft party with family and friends. I got the call from Mike Tomlin. I got picked by Pittsburgh. There was nothing like it.

"I was celebrating with family and friends. I had my aunt hugging and crying with me. It was truly a beautiful thing. It was mind blowing for me. I remember coming up in South Carolina, a small town kid. Who would think coming from there I would be at this level? Getting to that level even to this day is mind blowing to me.

"As a kid everyone remembers at Thanksgiving, Christmas, you are eating food and everybody is watching the game. Everybody wants to be the dude to win the Thanksgiving game. As a kid you want to be a dreamer. Dreamers always want to achieve their dreams.

"It was unreal for me to be drafted. Just being a part of that, I still don't have words to describe it."
