Take A Tour: Watt's record-setting display

The Steelers Hall of Honor Museum, located at Acrisure Stadium, provides an in-depth history of the franchise, a chronological flow that focuses on key moments.

The Hall of Honor Museum features everything from one-of-a-kind artifacts, exclusive game-worn uniform pieces, the Steelers six Super Bowl rings and replicated offices of founder Art Rooney Sr. and chairman Daniel M. Rooney.

The highlight, however, is the Hall of Honor, where the 53 members' bronze footballs are on display, along with their images and touch screen kiosks to learn more about them, including their bios, photos and videos of the inductees.

Over the next few weeks, we are highlighting some of the items in the museum, just a few of the things Steelers fans can enjoy while taking a historical tour of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If you are making the trip to the Hall of Honor Museum to see linebacker T.J. Watt, you might just be in luck.

Well, kind of.

A full-size mannequin of Watt is on display and what it is clothed in is pretty special…the full uniform Watt wore when he tied the NFL sack record during the 2021 season.

Watt tied the NFL's single-season sack record with 22.5 sacks after he took down Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley late in the second quarter of a 16-13 overtime win on Jan. 9, 2022. Watt had five tackles, one sack, three quarterback hits, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery in the game.

The old record was set by Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001, a record that stood for 20 years, and Watt tied it while missing two games that season due to injuries, plus a good portion of a third game. He also broke the Steelers single-season sack record the same season, surpassing James Harrison's record of 16 sacks set in 2008.

"It's all about tradition here and to be able to put your footprint in as part of the tradition here is special," said Watt at the time. "I know it's an individual goal. I'm not big on individual achievements. But doing this with such a wonderful group of guys is what it's all about. To be able to be a part of this franchise hopefully for a long time, this is very special. But I really do have more work to do."

Watt went on to win the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year that season, joining an exclusive group of Steelers who won the award, including Joe Greene (1972, 1974), Mel Blount (1975), Jack Lambert (1976), Rod Woodson (1993), James Harrison (2008) and Troy Polamalu (2010), five of the six in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"That's huge. That's why I was so honored to be drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers," said Watt. "I mean, talk about the legacy and the amount of legends that have walked through those halls. It's one of those things where if those guys played in that system and were so successful and won awards like this, why can't we do it too? Why can't I do it? Seeing those guys play in Pittsburgh let me know that it's possible. A lot of credit to my teammates, coaches and the upper management as well, Mr. (Art) Rooney (II), for picking me."

The Steelers Hall of Honor Museum is located above the Steelers Pro Shop at Acrisure Stadium and accessible via the Gate B suite entry. Fans can visit the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum year-round, Thursday-Monday, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. (last entry). It is also closed when the University of Pittsburgh plays at home.
