PITTSBURGH– The Steelers signed tight end David Johnsonto a one-year contract, it was announced today.
Johnson, an unrestricted free agent, returns to Pittsburgh after spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the San Diego Chargers.
Originally selected by the Steelers in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, Johnson has played in 82 career games with 33 starts during the regular season (2009-13 with Pittsburgh and 2014-15 with San Diego), totaling 24 receptions for 224 yards with one receiving touchdown. He has started all four games played during the postseason.
To make room for Johnson on the 90-man roster, the Steelers released tight end David Reeves.
