The Steelers signed kicker Matt McCrane, who played with the Raiders and Cardinals this season.
McCrane has converted on five-of-nine field goal attempts and all five extra points this year. McCrane spent time with the Raiders early in the 2018 season, but was released by the Raiders and was signed to the Cardinals practice squad on Oct. 26. He was activated on Nov. 17 due to an injury to Phil Dawson, but was released two days later because Dawson was again healthy.
McCrane originally signed with the Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Kansas State following the 2018 NFL Draft. During the preseason he was four-for-four on field goal attempts, including hitting from 53 and 54 yards out. He also made all three of his PATs.
McCrane was an All-Big 12 selection at Kansas State, the first kicker in school history to earn the honor three times. He made a total of 57-of-66 field goal attempts and connected on 133-of-134 PATs. He is Kansas States all-time leading scorer with 304 career points.
Kicker Chris Boswell was placed on the reserve/injured list. Boswell has made 13 of 20 field goals this season.
