Steelers Release Kendall Simmons and Mike Humpal

*PITTSBURGH ―The Steelers announced today they have terminated the contracts of veteran offensive guardKendall Simmonsand first-year linebackerMike Humpal.
Simmons (6-3, 315) played seven seasons with the Steelers after being drafted in the first round (30th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. Simmons had made 30 straight starts at right guard before his 2008 season came to an end after being placed on the team's Reserve/Injured List with an Achilles injury.
Simmons played and started in 80 career regular-season games and seven postseason contests for Pittsburgh, including Super Bowl XL. He was the team's 2002 recipient of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award as the Steelers' top rookie.
Humpal (6-3, 240) was injured during his rookie training camp in 2008 and was placed on the team's Reserve/Injured List with a neck injury. Humpal was the first of two sixth-round draft picks (188th overall) by the Steelers in the 2008 NFL Draft.
