Steelers Re-Sign RB Davis; Place Summers on Reserve/Injured List
 
The Steelers added a familiar name to their offensive backfield today when they signed running back Carey Davis to a one-year deal. Davis rejoins the team after rookie running back Frank Summers was placed on the team's Reserve/Injured list with a back injury.
 
Davis, a fourth-year veteran who originally signed with the Steelers as a free agent in 2006, played in 30 of 32 regular season games with the team from 2006-08. Davis, who can play both the running back and fullback positions, was also a contributor on the Steelers' special teams units. Davis has rushed for 103 yards on 29 carries (3.1 avg.) and caught 17 passes for 76 yards (4.5 avg.) during his Steelers career. He has also returned six kickoffs for 106 yards (17.7 avg.) and recorded 22 special teams tackles, including 17 in 2007.
 
Davis began his NFL career in 2004 with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted rookie from Illinois. He played in one game with Indianapolis that season and later played in two postseason games with the Atlanta Falcons after being released by the Colts.
 
Davis replaces Summers on the team's active roster. Summers, who was chosen by the Steelers in the fifth round of last April's NFL Draft, played in the first two games of the 2009 season before being placed on the inactive list in Week 3.
