The Steelers have promoted Tyler Murphy to the active roster, the team announced today.
Murphy originally joined the Steelers as a rookie free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft. He was a member of the team's 2015 53-man roster and appeared in each of the team's first two games of the season and caught one pass for 16 yards in Week 1 at New England. He was released on September 23 and was signed to the team's Practice Squad on September 24. He will wear No. 16.
To make room for Murphy, the Steelers placed cornerback Cortez Allen on the team's Reserve/Injured List. Allen entered the NFL as a fourth-round (128th overall) draft selection of Pittsburgh in 2011. He has started 18-of-56 games played and recorded 125 tackles (120 solo) and six interceptions with 34 passes defensed.
