The Steelers have promoted safety Ross Ventroneto the active roster, the team announced today.
Ventrone has been on the Steelers' practice squad since the beginning of the 2014 season. He was on the team's offseason roster in 2013 and spent parts of the 2013 season on the team's practice squad. Prior to being signed by Pittsburgh, Ventrone spent time on the active roster and practice squad for the New England Patriots (2010-12). He originally signed with the Patriots as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Villanova University on April 29, 2010.
To make room on the roster, the Steelers released rookie offensive lineman Wesley Johnson.
