The Steelers went into Chicago with a 2-0 record, but it would be the 0-2 Bears who would come away victorious.

The Bears defeated the Steelers in overtime, 23-17, when Jordan Howard scored on a 19-yard touchdown run. Howard had 23 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while the Bears rushed for a total of 220 yards.

"You have to give credit to those guys," said Tomlin. "They did a great job today, particularly in running the football. That is unacceptable for us. We'll absorb the negativity that comes with that. You've got to stop the run. They utilized those two backs and really did a nice job."

The game got off to a rough start for the Steelers, starting with the opening drive. Ben Roethlisberger threw deep to Martavis Bryant, who had the defender beat, but he wasn't able to pull the ball in and the Steelers eventually had to punt.

The defense shut down the Bears, forcing a three-and-out, but gave them second life when Eli Rogers fumbled the punt. Sherrick McManis recovered, giving the Bears optimal field position at the Steelers 29-yard line. And the Bears made it count. Staying on the ground, the Bears went on a six-play drive that culminated in a three-yard touchdown run by Jordan Howard for an early, 7-0, lead.

The Steelers came into the game plus one on turnovers, but were bit for a second time in the first quarter. Ben Roethlisberger was sacked by Bryce Callahan, who stripped the ball loose. Akiem Hicks recovered at the 50-yard line.

Lucky for the Steelers, this one didn't cost them. Connor Barth's 47-yard field goal went wide right, holding the score at 7-0.

The offense got clicking for the Steelers on their fourth possession of the game. Le'Veon Bell started to get rolling with three carries for 16 yards, while Roethlisberger completed seven passes for 69 yards. Roethlisberger capped the 13-play, 77-yard drive with a seven yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown, tying the game, 7-7.

The Bears came right back. Jordan Howard carried the Bears on the ground with four carries for 36 yards, while Mike Glennon, who didn't have a completion in the first quarter, hit Zach Miller for a 17-yard completion. Glennon capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown pass to Adam Shaheen, giving the Bears the lead, 14-7.

With just 43 seconds to play, Roethlisberger took the Steelers to the 18-yard line, courtesy of two receptions for 45 yards by Brown. Chris Boswell looked primed to cut the lead, but his 35-yard field goal was blocked by McManis, and picked up by Marcus Cooper. Cooper looked like he was headed into the end zone, but slowed down, and was caught from behind by Vance McDonald, who knocked the ball free at the one-yard line. Jordan Berry knocked the ball out of the end zone, and Berry was flagged for an illegal bat. After reviewing the play, the Bears got the ball at the one-yard line.

The Bears took advantage, and Barth extended the Bears lead with a 24-yard field goal, sending them into the locker room at halftime ahead, 17-7. 

After exchanging possessions to start the second half, Ryan Shazier came up with a huge play. Shazier knocked Howard for a five yard loss, forced a fumble, and recovered it at the Bears 16-yard line.

Bell had a gain of four yards, and on third down Roethlisberger scrambled and slid for a first down. Bell added a five-yard carry, and after a holding call gave the Steelers the ball at the one, he took it in for the touchdown, cutting the Bears lead to 17-14.

While turnovers hurt the Steelers early on, they again worked in their favor later in the game. J.J. Wilcox had a diving interception, giving the Steelers the ball at the Bears 21-yard line. The offense couldn't get it in the end zone, but Boswell hit on a 32-yard field goal to tie the game, 17-17.
