The Steelers go into today's game against the Washington Commanders a relatively healthy unit.
Linebacker Nick Herbig is inactive after he was ruled out on Friday, still dealing with a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss four games now.
The good news, though, is linebacker Preston Smith is active, ready to go after he was acquired via a trade with the Green Bay Packers earlier this week.
"I think it helps us out a lot," said defensive tackle Cameron Heyward. "He's a bigger body guy, can stop the run, get after the pass. He's a seasoned vet. It's nothing new to him.
"I think it's just getting used to our defense. He has a lot of experience playing the 3-4 front, so you couldn't ask for a better guy to trade for in that situation. We welcome him with open arms and are excited to see him play."
Linebacker T.J. Watt also welcomes the addition of Smith, especially with Herbig out.
"I've been watching Preston from afar," said Watt. "Impressive edge rusher, he's been doing it for a long time, and he brings a lot of experience. He's a big body guy who can move well. Bend around the edges. He's had a lot of production.
"I'm really excited to have him to add to the rotation and help keep us fresh.
"Just being with him throughout the last couple of days, very smart guy. He's been around a 3-4 defense before, so I don't think it'll be too challenging. But it's also an NFL defense, a whole new language. I'm not going to say it's an easy task either."
On the offensive side of the ball, receiver Mike Williams, who the Steelers acquired via a trade with the New York Jets is active, while receiver Scotty Miller is inactive. Miller has appeared in eight games this season, with two receptions for 31 yards.
Williams will make his Steelers debut, giving quarterback Russell Wilson another downfield threat alongside George Pickens.
"Mike has done a great job so far coming in," said Wilson. "He's been great in the meetings. He's been great on the field, just a lot of attention to detail. You can tell he's a pro. I've been able to play against him for several years. He's a dominant receiver. He can make some great plays.
"The good thing is that we've got a lot of great players. We've got a lot of great receivers. We just have a plethora of guys that can really make plays, and obviously our tight ends and our running backs. So, it's just a guy who wants to win, a guy who's competitive, and he's determined to show who he is."
Also active this week will be linebacker Tyler Matakevich and receiver Ben Skowronek. Both of them were activated from the Reserve/Injured List to the 53-man roster on Saturday.
The other inactives include cornerback C.J. Henderson, offensive lineman Max Scharping and quarterback Kyle Allen will be the third quarterback this week.
