Steelers in waiting game for playoff opponent

With the Steelers' 19-17 loss to the Bengals on Saturday night at Acrisure Stadium, their playoff opponent in next weekend's Wild Card round remains up in the air.

Baltimore's 35-10 win earlier in the day over the Browns clinched the AFC North title for the Ravens (12-5), meaning the Steelers (10-7) are currently the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs.

If they remain in that spot, they will travel to Houston to face the AFC South-champion Texans next weekend at a date and time to be determined.

However, if the Chargers (10-6) defeat the Raiders on Sunday in Las Vegas, the Steelers would fall to the No. 6 seed. Kickoff is slated for 4:25 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

That would send the Steelers to Baltimore in the opening round of the AFC playoffs for a rubber match between the two AFC North rivals. If the Chargers lose, the Steelers would remain the No. 5 seed based on their victory over Los Angeles, 20-10, in Week 3 of this season.

The Steelers defeated the Ravens, 18-16, on Nov. 17 at Acrisure Stadium before dropping a 34-17 decision to the Ravens in Baltimore Dec. 21.

That matchup would mark the fourth time the Steelers and Ravens have met three times in a season, with the Steelers having won the playoff matchup in two of the previous three meetings.

Baltimore's win in December also was just the Ravens' second over the Steelers in 10 meetings since the 2020 season.
