The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Pittsburgh Steelers are teaming up to tackle hunger at the Annual Steelers Food Drive at Heinz Field on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Fans attending the Steelers-Redskins game are asked to bring nutritious non-perishable food and grocery items to Heinz Field. Volunteers will collect the donations at gates A, B and C and at the Food Bank truck, which will be parked along Art Rooney Avenue, from 10:00 a.m. until shortly after kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Cash contributions will also be accepted. Giant Eagle, a Steelers and Food Bank partner, will once again match the food donation total pound for pound!
Since 2003 the Steelers Food Drive has raised more than $20,000 and eight tons of food.
"Steelers fans give the Food Bank a valuable pre-holiday boost," said Lisa A. Scales, CEO of the Food Bank, "This time of year with heating bills coming and the holidays, it's critical that the Food Bank have enough support to meet the increased needs of the season. If every fan brings just one can, we'd have more than 60,000 pounds of food! And we could double that with the Giant Eagle match! "

Most-needed items: Canned meats, tuna (water-packed), canned beans, low-sugar cereal, peanut butter, canned juice (100% juice), canned vegetables and fruit (packed in juice). Seasonal items are also welcome: canned pumpkin or yams, boxed mashed potatoes or stuffing mixes, etc. Paper products, personal care items, diapers (baby and adult). Non-perishable items only; no glass containers please.
