Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney Sr. and his wife Patricia will receive honorary degrees from Allegheny College as a part of the school's 200th year celebration.

"In Allegheny's bicentennial year, Ambassador and Mrs. Rooney represent all the highest ideals of our College," said Allegheny College President James H. Mullen, Jr. "Their commitment to Pittsburgh and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to excellence - be it on the football field or the classroom, to service of their nation...in every way their example calls us to the very best in citizenship. It is a privilege to welcome them to the Allegheny family."

They will receive the honorary degrees at the school's commencement on Saturday, May 9. *

"It makes you feel very humble to be recognized by a university, especially with the emphasis we place on the importance of education with young people," said Patricia Rooney. "It's something we are all very involved in.

"It's interesting we are both getting it. I guess that happens after you have been married over 50 years and your kids and grandkids have gone through the educational system."
