The Steelers continue to struggle in short yardage, but Tomlin was still pleased with the performance of the offensive line, referring to it as "above the line" against the Lions in their 37-27 win.
"I appreciate the contributions of some of those people, particularly guys like Guy Whimper, who has been a lifetime tackle that started at guard for the first time in his life this season," said Tomlin.
Whimper started for guard Ramon Foster, who was sidelined with a knee injury.
"As an offensive line we needed a win like that, especially going against that defensive front. It shows where we are as a unit," said Whimper. "It is satisfying, especially when you put up 37 points. Whenever you score points like that, it boosts your confidence no matter who you play. But you have to keep that going into the next week."
The line knows this week they need to improve in short yardage after not having success trying to run the ball near the goal line on multiple occasions against the Lions.
"We are going to watch the tape and get better," said center Fernando Velasco. "There are things we want to improve on, especially down in the goal line. As offensive lineman you want the ball to be run behind you and score and unfortunately we didn't score in the run game. We have to get in the lab and work on that."
