LinebackerLA MARR WOODLEY of the Pittsburgh Steelers is theGMC SIERRA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKfor games played on September 4 – 8, the NFL announced today.
Woodley batted down a pass, recorded one sack, recovered a fumble, registered two tackles, and made one interception in his first career start, a 38-17 win over the Houston Texans. Woodley's interception set up a Steelers' touchdown for a 21-0 lead with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Woodley was selected from among five finalists by voters on NFL.com/gmc. The other finalists were defensive endJOHN ABRAHAMof the Atlanta Falcons, cornerbackCORTLAND FINNEGANof the Tennessee Titans, cornerbackCHRIS GAMBLEof the Carolina Panthers and defensive endTRAVIS LA BOY* of the Arizona Cardinals.
