Former Steelers on Hall of Fame list

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher is one of 103 people eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2012.

This is the first year Cowher is eligible after leaving the Steelers following the 2006 season, one year after he led the team to a win in Super Bowl XL.

Joining Cowher on the list this year are three former Steelers, center Dermontti Dawson, running back Jerome Bettis and safety Donnie Shell.

Both Dawson and Bettis were among the 15 finalists last year, but were not elected when the final class was announced.  Dawson was a finalist the previous year as well.

In addition former Steelers cornerback Jack Butler is one of two senior nominees for the Hall of Fame.

The initial list will be narrowed down to 25 semifinalists in mid-November and the final list of 15 finalists in January. The Class of 2012 will be voted on the day before the Super Bowl.
