PITTSBURGH — Former Steelers tight end and member of the 1970's Super Bowl Championship teams Randy Grossman will chair the 20th Annual Gatorade/Steelers 5K Race, Fitness Walk and Kids' Kickoff Run on Labor Day Weekend, Monday, September 1, at 9 a.m. at Heinz Field. The race will be part of the Steelers Kickoff Week festivities at Heinz Field, including the annual Coors Light Kickoff Rib and Music Festival.
Day of race registration only is still available and will take place beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday.
The race, which benefits the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund, is a competitive event sanctioned by USA Track and Field with a 3.1-mile level course on the North Side highlighted by a spectacular finish on the warning track in Heinz Field.
Gatorade is the title sponsor of the race. Major sponsors include Giant Eagle, KDKA-TV 2, WDVE-FM, Fox Sports Radio 970, Dean Dairy, Sony and UPMC St. Margaret. The corporate team competition is presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.
The Art Rooney Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the late founder of the Steelers who died in August of 1988 after living most of his life on the North Side. A $12,000 scholarship in Art Rooney's name is presented annually to a graduating senior from each of the three high schools on the North Side — Oliver, Perry and North Catholic.
