PITTSBURGH ― Pittsburgh area residents can celebrate the region's largest Independence Day gathering during the Heinz Field Fourth of July Celebration presented by Coors Light. Stadium gates open at 2 p.m. on July 4th and admission is free. Parking lots open at 8 a.m.
In addition to food, games and family fun, there will be patriotic tributes, fireworks and free concerts during the afternoon and evening, highlighted by Grammy-nominated, ACM & CMA award-winning country superstar Joe Nichols. Nichols is continuing his success in country music, as his current single "Take It Off" is quickly climbing the charts. In 2010, Joe had the second-most played song, "Gimmie That Girl," in the U.S. He has sold more than two million albums and is a four-time Grammy nominee. Nichols returns to Pittsburgh after performing live during halftime of the AFC Championship Game at Heinz Field this past January.
The 28th Infantry Division Band will start the celebration at 2:30 p.m., performing a special tribute to our nation. At 5 p.m. active members of the Pennsylvania National Guard will sing the National Anthem, followed by a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil war by the 6th Regiment USCT Drum Corp. Local rockers Tres Lads and Pittsburgh's own The Stickers will also perform.
The Stickers, who released their self-titled debut album two years ago, have charted four songs in the U.S. this year and three top-20 singles in Europe. The Stickers have appeared with country's biggest starts such as Zac Brown Band, Alan Jackson and Hank Williams, Jr.
Heinz Field will also feature a variety of events, including North Shore and river activities and live broadcasts from WDVE, Y108 and Froggy radio stations. Additionally, the ramps of Heinz Field will be open to view the fireworks, which will begin after Joe Nichols' performance.
Sponsors for the Heinz Field Fourth of July Celebration include Coors Light, The U.S. Army, Coca-Cola, WDVE, KDKA, Froggy Radio, Y108 Radio, PA Lottery, Arby's, Ticketmaster, Turkey Hill Ice Cream and Big Machine Records.
