BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Browns coach Eric Mangini said he's willing to explore using Josh Cribbs, Cleveland's versatile playmaker, more in a traditional running back role.
Cribbs ran for 87 yards out of the wildcat formation in last Thursday's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, who came in with the NFL's top-ranked rushing defense. Cribbs also returns kickoffs and punts, plays gunner on special teams and at wide receiver.
Mangini said Monday he would not be opposed to Cribbs playing running back.
Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas believes Cribbs, a quarterback in college, could be an ``extremely successful'' running back as a pro.
The Browns have been moving forward on contract negotiations with Cribbs, and Mangini is confident something will be worked out.
