Brown and Gerry Mullins to Chair Gatorade/Steelers 5K Race

2010 Gatorade/Steelers 5K

Steelers alumni offensive linemen John Brown and Gerry Mullins will chair the 22nd Annual Gatorade/Steelers 5K Race, Fitness Walk and Kids' Kickoff Run on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. at Heinz Field.  The race benefits the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund.

Brown, a tackle for the Steelers from 1967-72, has been a member of the scholarship committee since its inception 20 years ago.  Mullins was a guard and offensive tackle from 1971-79, playing on all four Steelers Super Bowl championship teams in the 1970s.

Online registration, presented by Dick's Sporting Goods, is available by visiting Steelers/Gatorade 5K. Paper applications are available by calling (412) 697-7713 or by emailing 5K@steelers.nfl.com or downloading APPLICATION.

The race is a competitive event sanctioned by USA Track and Field with a 3.1-mile level course through Pittsburgh's North Side highlighted by a spectacular finish on the sideline in Heinz Field.

Gatorade is the title sponsor of the race. Major sponsors include Giant Eagle, Dick's Sporting Goods, KDKA-TV 2, WDVE-FM, Fox Sports Radio 970, Dean Dairy, and UPMC St. Margaret Sports Medicine Center.

The Art Rooney Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Arthur J. Rooney, the late founder of the Steelers who died in August of 1988 after living most of his life on the North Side. A $12,000 scholarship in Art Rooney's name is presented annually to a graduating senior from each of the three North Side high schools — Oliver, Perry and North Catholic.
