Player of the Week

Allen is Digest Player of the Week

KYLE ALLEN
Quarterback

One of the ramifications of Russell Wilson's calf injury during the conditioning test was that it provided more on-field repetitions for both Justin Fields and Kyle Allen during the first couple of weeks of training camp. It appeared as though that extra exposure was a help to Allen during the preseason opener.

In the Steelers' 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans on Friday night at Acrisure Stadium, Allen completed 17-of-23 (73.9 percent) for 193 yards, with 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and a rating of 95.0. One of his incompletions came on a spike to stop the clock, and the interception came in the final seconds of the game when he was trying to force the ball downfield with the Steelers out of timeouts and needing a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to tie the game.

Allen is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered was NT Montravius Adams, who had a sack and batted a pass down at the line of scrimmage on a third-and-8 to force a Texans' punt; DE DeMarvin Leal, who had 3 tackles, a sack, and tipped a pass that almost was intercepted by Ryan Watts; OLB Jeremiah Moon, who had 5 tackles and a sack; RB Daijun Edwards, who rushed 3 times for 28 yards (9.3 average) and scored a 1-tard touchdown; and RB Jonathan Ward, who had 6 carries for 26 yards (4.3 average) and 1 special teams tackle.
