LATROBE, Pa. – Practicing in the evening is nothing new for the Steelers, as they have hosted their 'Friday Night Lights' practice yearly at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
Tonight, though, there will be a new twist on a night practice. For the first time ever the Steelers will hold a training camp practice at Heinz Field as part of the first 'Steelers Family Fest.'
"It's super cool that we are the first team to do it," said Arthur Moats. "It adds that much more to the training camp experience and to the fan experience. For them to be able to see us in a practice setting at Heinz Field is great."
The new experience is something that the players are looking forward to, and welcome the change of pace and excitement it will bring.
"We were just talking about it," said Tyler Matakavich. "I don't know what to expect. I think it's going to be a great environment."
For many Steelers players, it will be the first time they have practiced at Heinz Field, and honestly, they can't wait.
"It's going to be a euphoric feeling," said Coty Sensabaugh. "I am looking forward to it. You try to take advantage of every day you are given and not take anything for granted. Being in that environment will be good for all of us and will be exciting."
While James Conner has spent plenty of time at Heinz Field while playing for the University of Pittsburgh, this will be the first time some of the rookies and young players will have the opportunity and it's going to be beneficial.
"They are going to get a feel for what it's like," said Stephon Tuitt. "It's different on game day when the towels are waving and you hear the chants. It will be a good first experience for them."
Steelers Family Fest: For the first time ever the Steelers will practice at Heinz Field on Sunday, Aug. 6 as a part of the team's Family Fest.
Activities begin outside of Heinz Field at 3 p.m., with the action moving inside from 5-9 p.m., highlighted by a full practice.
There will be plenty for everyone from the Steelers Experience to meeting Super Bowl champion Steelers Frenchy Fuqua, Franco Harris, Jon Kolb, Rocky Bleier, Chris Hoke and Santonio Holmes.
