Wreaths Across America accepts support from Steelers

This press release was published by Wreaths Across America on Thursday, December 7

Wreaths Across America (WAA) today announced that is has accepted with gratitude a contribution of $20,000 from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The donation will ensure that all 9,600 veterans buried at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies will receive a remembrance wreath this year as part of WAA's National Wreaths Across America Day on December 16, 2017.

Each December, WAA honors fallen military services members across the United States with wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 1,300 other locations as part of its National Wreaths Across America Day. The contribution from the Pittsburgh Steelers will allow WAA to place wreaths on every single fallen military service member's headstone at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, Penn., in honor of the service and sacrifices they made for our freedoms, with each name said aloud during the ceremonies.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers are honored to be a part of National Wreaths Across America Day this December," said Art Rooney II, president, Pittsburgh Steelers. "Our donation honors our fellow Pennsylvanians who gave their lives for our freedom, a sacrifice that will always be remembered with gratitude and reverence."

"Each year, the number of wreath remembrances and volunteers for National Wreaths Across America Day grows," said Karen Worcester, executive director, Wreaths Across America. "This is a testament to the good will and sense of community that the event fosters in each town that participates. It is especially wonderful to see an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers give back to their local community and help ensure that all veterans and their families will be honored this December at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville."

On this year's National Wreaths Across America Day, Americans from all walks of life join together, in thanks to Remember, Honor and Teach. Ceremonies at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies and other participating cemeteries will begin at noon on December 16, 2017, and the local community is invited to join in the placement of wreaths. No registration is required.

National Wreaths Across America Day is a free event and open to all people. For more information, visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
