The Steelers announced their practice squad on Sunday, and they are all familiar faces who were waived when the team reduced their roster to 53 players.
The team signed nine players, while agreeing to terms with one other. Teams are permitted to sign a maximum of 10 players to the practice squad.
On offense the Steelers signed center Kyle Friend, tight end Jake McGee, running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and wide receiver Marcus Tucker. They also agreed to terms with wide receiver Justin Thomas.
Defensively the team signed linebacker Matt Galambos, safety Jacob Hagen, defensive end Lavon Hooks, linebacker Farrington Huguenin and cornerback Dashaun Phillips.
A closer look at the practice squad:
Kyle Friend: Was signed by the Steelers during the offseason to a reserve/futures contract. Entered the NFL with the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Temple and spent time on their practice squad last season.
Matt Galambos: Galambos was signed by the Steelers in May after a tryout during rookie minicamp. The former University of Pittsburgh linebacker played in all four preseason games, finishing with nine tackles, and an interception.
Jacob Hagen: Hagen finished the preseason with 10 tackles, as well as an interception against the Carolina Panthers. Hagen also had a forced fumble and two pass defenses. Hagen was also on the Steelers practice squad last year.
Lavon Hooks: Hooks finished the preseason with seven tackles. The Steelers signed Hooks to a reserve/future contract this offseason, his second go-through with the team. He was originally signed by the team to a reserve/future contract in 2016, but was waived before the 2016 season.
Farrington Huguenin: Finished the preseason with 11 tackles, playing in all four games. He originally joined the Steelers this offseason, signing a reserve/future contract.
Jake McGee
: McGee was signed by the Steelers during training camp this year. During the preseason he had three receptions for 13 yards. McGee, who played collegiately at Florida, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016.
Dashaun Phillips: The Steelers acquired Phillips via a trade with the Washington Redskins on Aug. 23. He played against the Carolina Panthers in the preseason finale, finishing with two tackles and a fumble recovery. Phillips played in five games for the Redskins in 2016, starting two, in the nickel role. He had seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Fitzgerald Toussaint: Toussaint was originally signed to the Steelers practice squad in Sept., 2015. He was promoted to the active roster in Nov., 2015. Last season Toussaint played in 16 games, with 14 carries for 58 yards.
Justin Thomas: Thomas was signed by the Steelers on Aug. 23. Thomas played quarterback at Georgia Tech, played defensive back and was a kick returner in the Senior Bowl, and at his Pro Day worked at multiple positions, including wide receiver, quarterback, defensive back and kick returner.
Marcus Tucker: Tucker, who was on the Steelers practice squad last season, had eight receptions for 97 yards in the preseason this year, with a long of 34 yards against Carolina in the preseason finale.
