Normal day: In the NFL "Victory Monday" means a day off for the players, a chance to get some much needed rest as a reward for a win the day before.
But if you looked around the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Monday, things were bustling as "Victory Monday" simply meant another day working toward the team's ultimate goal, making the playoffs.
The Steelers host the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day at Heinz Field, and a win by the Steelers could deliver that goal and the perfect Christmas present, an AFC North title and a playoff berth.
"That's what it comes down to, Steelers vs. Ravens," said Roosevelt Nix. "Christmas Day. We have to bring it like we do. I think it all adds up. The title is on the line. It's all extra hype for a game that is already intense. It should be fun."
In a rush: The Ravens defeated the Steelers, 21-14, in a Week 9 matchup this season, but since then the Steelers are 5-1 and playing with fire.
"It was one of those team things that not everyone played well," said David DeCastro of the loss. "Everyone took their turns. We have to play better if we are going to win."
The Steelers managed just 36 yards rushing in the game, Le'Veon Bell being held to 32 yards on 14 carries. Establishing the run this week is pivotal, but if it's the passing game that is working, that's the direction the offense will be headed.
"We have to do what is going to be successful," said DeCastro. "If passing the ball is that, we have to pass the ball. Keep Ben (Roethlisberger) clean if we have to. We have to win the game. I don't care how it gets done. If we have one rushing yard or 200 rushing yards. It doesn't matter. We just have to get the win."
Playing with confidence: Eli Rogers led the Steelers in receiving against the Bengals with five catches for 75 yards. Rogers pulled in a 28-yard reception on a field goal drive, and scored the team's only touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Roethlisberger.
"I always felt like I was capable of making plays," said Rogers. "It was just a matter of opportunities. I am going to continue to try and be a guy that takes some pressure off of Antonio (Brown). I am just playing my role right now."
